I thought, "This can't be what I've worked towards my entire life..."
I can remember being fresh out of college and landing my first corporate gig. I thought, this is what I've been working towards my entire life.
I started out full steam but it didn't take long for that steam to fizzle out. I was working 18+ hour days, 6 days a week as a salaried employee. In fact, I worked so many hours it equated to the hours of 3 jobs.
To top that off, I needed to have 3 roomates just to make ends meet. I was living paycheck to paycheck and just couldn't seem to get ahead.
I wasn't living the life that I had envisioned for myself and quite frankly I found little joy in the life I created for myself.
I managed to keep at it for 5 years, but knew something had to change.
I wanted to wake up in the morning and do something that I loved to do. I wanted to create a job where I could create more income and more security for my future.
The question that changed my life.
In 2001, I came to that fork in the road. You know...the one that can change your entire future...
I could either continue with what I was doing and go through life being unhappy and struggling...
OR I could take a leap of faith and try out something new. I was struggling with making a decision when my soon-to-be-husband asked me a question that I'll never forget.
He said, "Halle if you could do anything right now, what would it be?"
No one had ever asked me this...I paused for a few seconds and then blurted out "I'd open up a bagel cafe right here on Wilmington Island."
BOOM! There it was...for me it was right on the surface, my greatest desire was to turn my love of baking into a business, more specifically a bagel cafe.
From wildly successful to can I do this again?
In 2001, I made Savannah Bagel Cafe a reality and became a first-time business owner.
I had little to no experience and turned my cafe into a multi 6 figure revenue machine. We successfully sold it in 2006 after my life took a dramatic turn and I went from having zero kids to having 3 beautiful girls in 18 short months.
I stayed home with my girls for their first 5 years before I started to get the itch to start something new around 2011. I knew I didn't want to spend what I had spent on my first business (225K) and was intrigued about starting an online business.
I liked the idea of online because I knew it would have low overhead and high-profit margins, and it would provide the ultimate flexibility AND FREEDOM.
But I didn't know if I could realistically make a living online and more importantly could I do it again being a mom of three small children? Was it possible to be a good mom and a successful business owner?
If you're a mom, I'm sure you can relate. Being a mom is a full time job in itself.
I didn't know how to get started, but what I did know is that I followed a lot of other moms online and watched them go from nothing too wildly popular...so I knew it could be done.
Now maybe you too have thought about starting an online business or you've researched if an online business can really create an income that you could live on.
But the reality of it is there is so much conflicting information out there and talk about information overload!... It makes you want to throw your hands up and give up.

How starting an online business is "SOLD" out there, and why it's a myth
Others who want to "coach" you on starting an online business (aka, take your money) want you to believe that you don't have to do any work other than create something to sell, and then it will magically sell itself.
They want you to believe that you can just throw up a few blog posts and share them on social media and POOF, like magic it turns into a profitable business.
That's such nonsense!
Just randomly blogging or posting on social media isn’t a strategy. There are over 1.13 billion websites online and almost 3 billion on Facebook...that's a lot of people doing the same thing to get traction! It won't work!

I decided to push through my fears of being a mom AND a business owner and give this online business thing a try.
If you recall, I started my first business by asking what do I love to do? So I started there and I took my love of cooking once again and turned it into an online platform that helped others live and eat nutritiously and I called this business Whole Lifestyle Nutrition.
At first it was a grind and gosh darn it, little by little I figured it out!
I grew Whole Lifestyle Nutrition to 500K monthly unique users and my little business quickly became a full-time job with employees and all!
I had to learn a lot about running a successful online business and what I figured out was that it's much easier to make money online and simpler than you think.
I went on to turn this business into a multi 6-figure revenue machine.
Wait a minute...that's TWO businesses that I started and went from ZERO to HERO and turned BOTH into 6 figures...

I discovered that it is possible to be a great mom and a successful business owner.

Yes, I've been an entrepreneur now for over 20 years, and in that time, I've never worked for anyone other than myself!
I've owned a restaurant, a health and wellness coaching and blogging business, a photography business, and now a consulting and business agency. I've even fulfilled my lifelong dream of becoming a traditionally published author and have gone on to write 4 books!
All of my businesses have provided me with enough income to sustain myself financially and have allowed me to continue to grow and work for myself and be there for my family.

If your business requires a lease for your place of business, or if you sell exclusively in retail space (no website), this might not be the right fit for you.
Sure. In my photography business, I sell prints, canvases, metal prints and other products showcasing the images that I took of them.
For my online business, I sold natural deodorant, clay diffuser necklaces, my books, affiliate products and other tangible products.
